It was a great privilege to present Mr. Avguste Antonov on the Heritage at Lowman concert series. His dedication to performing the works of living American composers is rare and gives the audience a fresh exposure to current music. The contemporary ragtime pieces had the flavor of their late 19th and early 20th century predecessors but added a sophistication and embellishment which allowed the performer to create a sense of improvisation within playful dance like movements. The Matthew Saunders Sonata is a powerful piece both in tonality and rhythmic energy throughout. While written as one extended movement it developed multiple mini movements within of both large towering chord groups and intricate energetic rhythmic passages. Mr. Antonov's performance was exceptional and inspiring throughout.
